Working hours are generally eight hours per day or 40 hours per week. Additional rest time of at least one hour must be provided if working hours exceed eight hours.
Employees are entitled to at least one day off per week or at least four days off over the course of four weeks. They are also entitled to a paid annual holiday leave on days of their choosing in accordance with the number of days they have worked.
Wages are paid directly to workers at least once a month on predetermined dates. A minimum wage is set for each district; paying a worker an amount less than the set minimum wage is punishable by law.

Japan has social security systems in place to protect workers in Japan.
This insurance entitles workers to receive various types of compensation if they get injured, become ill, or die while working or commuting to or from work.
Workers forced to take a leave of absence from work without pay in order to treat injuries sustained during work or when commuting to or from work will be paid work absence compensation and special work absence allowance (80% of normal pay in total) from the fourth day onward.
This insurance system is for workers who become unemployed. Workers are able to receive unemployment benefits on a conditional basis for a predetermined period of time until they find a new job. Consult your nearest Hello Work branch for further details.
